Treatment Planning

Once you’re deemed a candidate, Dr. Dave will create a customized treatment plan. This plan outlines:

• The timeline and cost of the procedure.

Preparatory Procedures (If Needed)

Some patients require additional steps before implant placement, such as:

• Bone Grafting: If your jawbone is too thin or weak, a graft may be needed to strengthen it.
• Tooth Extractions: Damaged or decayed teeth may need to be removed.
• Sinus Lifts: For upper jaw implants, a sinus lift may be necessary to create space.

Dental Implant Placement

The core of the dental implant procedure is the surgical placement of the titanium post.

Here’s what happens:

1. Anesthesia: Local anesthesia or sedation is used for comfort.
2. Incision: A small incision is made in the gum to access the jawbone.
3. Implant Insertion: The titanium post is carefully screwed into the bone.
4. Suturing: The gum is stitched closed, and a temporary cover may be placed over the implant.

This outpatient procedure typically takes 1 to 2 hours per implant.

Osseointegration (Healing Phase)

After placement, the dental implant needs time to fuse with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration. This phase:

• Takes 3 to 6 months, depending on your health and bone quality.
• Requires good oral hygiene and follow-up visits to monitor healing.
• Ensures the implant is strong enough to support a restoration.

Abutment Placement

Once osseointegration is complete, a small connector called an abutment is attached to the implant. This minor procedure involves:

1. Reopening the gum to expose the implant.
2. Securing the abutment, which will hold the final restoration, or artificial tooth.
3. Allowing 1 to 2 weeks for the gums to heal.

Final Restoration

The last step is placing the custom-made crown, bridge, or denture. Our Pearland dentist will:

1. Take impressions to craft a restoration that matches your natural teeth.
2. Attach the restoration to the abutment, ensuring a perfect fit.
3. Make adjustments for comfort and aesthetics.
