Dental Crowns & Bridges in Pearland, TX

Cosmetic Enhancement & Smile Restoration

Your teeth are one of the strongest parts of your body, but that doesn’t make them invulnerable. When a tooth is damaged or lost, it’s vital to your self-confidence and your oral health to repair or replace it as soon as possible. At Pearland Dental Group, our cosmetic dentists, Dr. Dave and Dr. Shah, can help repair damaged teeth and replace missing teeth with dental crowns and bridges

What Are Dental Crowns & Bridges?

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped, cap-like restorations that are fitted over your natural tooth. Crowns cover your entire visible tooth structure up to the gum lines, protecting it from trauma while restoring form and preserving natural function. Dental crowns are versatile cosmetic restorations, which can be made from various materials, including gold, porcelain, and composite materials. Crowns can also be used as the replacement tooth for dental implants, can be used to restore a tooth’s integrity after root canal therapy, and even help secure dental bridges.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are restorations made of a row of false teeth called pontics with dental crowns attached on either end. The crowns are secured to the healthy teeth adjacent to the space left by your missing teeth. In this way, the row of pontics can ‘bridge the gap’ left after tooth loss, restoring your smile.

Benefits of Dental Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and bridges remain the popular restorations they are, because of the numerous benefits they provide. Some of the benefits of crowns and bridges include the following:

  • Fast Treatment Times – It’s relatively quick to install a crown or bridge.
  • Affordable Dental crowns and bridges are a largely affordable option for most patients.
  • Stable – Crowns and bridges are permanently secured and won’t slip around or fall out.
  • Durable – Crowns can last 10-30 years and bridges can last 10-15 years.
  • Lifelike – Crowns and bridges are designed to blend seamlessly with your smile.
  • Prevents Further Damage – Crowns and bridges help prevent further damage and oral health issues such as infection and misalignment by repairing and replacing teeth.

How Dental Crowns Are Installed

Initial Visit

Before one of our Pearland cosmetic dentists approves you for a custom-made crown they’ll have you attend an initial visit. During your visit, your dentist will thoroughly examine your mouth, including digital X-rays, review your medical history, and ask you about your smile goals. The information your cosmetic dentist gathers will allow them to determine if dental crowns are right for you.

Your cosmetic dentist will be sure to inform you of all of your options. If you have any questions, your initial visit is a great time to ask!

Preparation

Once you and your dentist have both decided to go forward with dental crowns, we’ll apply a local anesthetic to the soft tissues (such as your gums) around the affected tooth. Once we’re sure you’re numb, your dentist will shape the tooth into a base by removing a small amount of enamel.

Designing Your Dental Crown

We’ll take images and impressions of your smile, including the newly shaped tooth. These will be sent to an offsite laboratory and serve as blueprints for your custom-made crown. Your dentist will then give you a temporary crown to wear until you return for your permanent crown restoration.

Installing Your Dental Crown

Your Pearland cosmetic dentist will show you your new crown to ensure it’s to your liking. If you approve, they’ll adhere it to the proper teeth with a special dental adhesive. From there, you’ll be able to enjoy your new smile!

The Dental Bridge Process

Initial Visit

Before your dentist approves you for a dental bridge, they’ll have you attend a routine visit. The major difference between an initial visit for a dental bridge as opposed to a crown is your Pearland cosmetic dentist will make note of any tooth-loss or any teeth that are too damaged to save.

Preparation

Just like with dental crown design, we’ll clean and numb the appropriate teeth. Then, your dentist will shape these teeth into a base.

Designing Your Dental Bridge

We’ll take images and impressions of your teeth which will be sent to an offsite lab and serve as the blueprints for your new dental bridge restoration. Depending on your case, you might receive a temporary dental bridge. You’ll return to Pearland Dental Group when your dental bridge is ready.

Installing Your Dental Bridge

When you return to Pearland Dental Group for your dental bridge restoration, we’ll show it to you before installing it. If you approve of your new bridge, we’ll install the new bridge by fitting the crowns over your shaped teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

The exact cost of your custom-made crown or bridge depends on multiple factors including materials used, the extent of any dental damage, and your insurance. The dentists at Pearland Dental Group and the rest of our staff encourage you to contact your provider beforehand to ask them which costs they can cover. One of our admin team members will go over the costs with you during your initial visit.

Having a dental crown or bridge made usually takes about two to three weeks while the process of having it installed usually takes place over one to two appointments. During your initial visit, your dentist will give you a more accurate breakdown of the length of time.

Dental crowns are built to last 10 to 30 years and dental bridges are built to last 10 to 15 years. If you want to get the most out of your restorations and make them last even longer, you’ll need to practice proper oral hygiene. This includes brushing, flossing, and rinsing between meals. You should also visit Pearland Dental Group for regular dental exams so your dentist can care for your natural teeth and your restorations.

If your crown or bridge breaks or falls off, do not attempt to repair it yourself. This may end up causing more damage to the restoration and trying to reinstall a broken crown or bridge can endanger your oral health. Instead, collect all of the pieces and save them in a clear, plastic bag or container. Then call Pearland Dental Group by dialing (281) 993-9900 and schedule an appointment. Your cosmetic dentist will either repair your restoration or recommend options for replacement.
